MPS teacher evaluations
Nokomis November 2012
Dear Editor,
I recently read the most recent propaganda from the superintendent of MPS, “Minneapolis leads in designing teacher evaluations” in Southside Pride (Phillips Powderhorn edition). You should try to talk to teachers about this. The new evaluation system is so time consuming it takes teachers away from students, families and curriculum. The“evaluators” were hired at the last minute and many if not MOST are unqualified to be grading teachers. There are many examples of this, but you have to find this info out on your own because if I give you specific examples I fear retaliation. Retaliation is very real in MPS. Principals, district administration and teachers used to be on the same side with the same mission. This is no longer true. Please publish an independent teacher voice about the evaluations, not, as I said before, a press release from the superintendent’s office. We expect more from the Southside Pride. Independent news and real people’s voices. Unfortunately B. Johnson is the head of a huge P.R. machine.
She makes WAY too much money and she IN FACT does not support MPS teachers.
A dedicated teacher who knows too much livin’ on the Southside
