Name the Stadium contest

vikingsnewStadium1BY ED FELIEN

Names for the new Vikings stadium are coming in fast and furious.  The response has been fast, and many of the names reflect taxpayer fury.
Jim Graham wants to call it The Bam, as in the Great Bamboozle.
Gayle Bonneville wants to call it The Bird.  Janet Nye thinks that’s a great choice: “Rising above Minneapolis, visible from far distances, looms the big flip off to Minneap-olis, brought to you by, not so much Zygi Wilf, but by his happy little elves in the Mayor’s Office, the City Council, the legislature, the Hennepin County commissioners (Twin’s stadium), and the governor.  We’re not the Mini-Apple, we’re New Jock City.”
Mary D. Christensen wants to name it Fran Tarkenton Field or American Eagle Field or Viking Field.
John Ferman suggests Concussion Bowl.
Anthony Hanson wants Concussion Rife Avian Punishment or Corporate Rich Avarice Palace.  I think he intends that people call it by the first letters in the four words in each of the two names.
Wizard Marks wants to call it The Albatross, from Coleridge’s poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”:
“Ah! well a-day! what evil looks
Had I from old and young!
Instead of the cross, the Albatross
About my neck was hung.”
There’s still time to think of a good name for our new billion dollar stadium, so send your suggestions to [email protected] or mail them to Editor, Southside Pride, 3200 Chicago Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55407.  The winner will be announced in our March editions.
