The Minneapolis 6th Ward, Precinct 3 caucus that ended Feb. 4 before officially adjourning will reconvene Wednesday, Feb. 19. The original caucus was held at the Brian Coyle Community Center. Because of space constraints at Brian Coyle, where an overflow crowd at the Feb. 4 event filled the building to capacity, and an anticipated interest in the reconvened caucus, the meeting has been moved to a location that can safely accommodate a large crowd.
“The caucus will be held at the Grand Hall in Coffman Union on the University of Minnesota campus,” said Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Chairman Ken Martin. “Registration begins at 5 p.m. and caucus convenes at 7 p.m. The only business of the caucus will be to elect convention delegates and alternates.”
Because the Feb. 4 caucus ended while registration was underway, any member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party living in the precinct may attend. Bus transportation will be provided free of charge to and from the Brian Coyle Community Center.
The caucus will be convened by Martin, former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, former St. Paul City Council Member Melvin Carter, and Senate District 53 Chairwoman Alberder Gillespie. To assist people new to the process, staff from the Humphrey School of Public Affairs is writing a one-page explanation of a caucus; this will be distributed before the meeting and handed out at the door.
“We are working extremely hard to engage people in the political process and provide an opportunity for them to have their voice heard,” Martin said.
