In a country where we seem to prioritize the greed of corporations and billionaires instead of our children and our schools, we need Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in office fighting with and for the people.
Every day, as a public-school teacher and MFT59 Teacher Chapter President, I work with my union for better school safety, better funding for our classrooms and better pay for our teachers and staff. We must often fight to be heard, but Ilhan listens and then carries our voices to the People’s House. Ilhan Omar has shown us she is the education and labor champion for the people. When we were striking in 2022, Ilhan stood on the picket lines with our MFT members, just as she has stood with members of the school board, administration and our staff for fully funded schools this year.
In schools, I can see first-hand the positive impact her work has had on our students, including ensuring that they have enough food to eat. Her MEALS Act helped 30 million students across the country stay fed during the pandemic, allowing them the freedom to focus on school and not their hunger.
Ilhan is the only member of the Minnesota congressional delegation sitting on the Education and Workforce Committee, guiding national conversations on the importance of public education. Coming from a state that has created universal school meals and expanded the state child tax credit, this nation is fortunate to have her fighting to make sure that our schools and teachers have the resources we need to thrive.
This Nov. 5, we need to send her back to Congress. Ilhan will always fight to make sure our communities have a seat at the table.
