July 8: Art for Collaboration – Bring the outcome of a group activity to life and collaborate on a comic strip to tell an epic story.
July 9: Art in Action – Make handmade, marbled paper to build characters that can move in real time.
July 10: Art for Comfort – Using tape and tin foil, create an object that can remind you of something that brings you comfort.

DanceCo uses dance to mash up the stories of Peter and the Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood, and The Three Little Pigs, reimagining the wolf as misunderstood, not big and bad! The season’s first performance will be at the Minnehaha Falls Pavilion this Saturday. Rain or shine, in the event of inclement weather, the audience and performers will bring the tale to life under the covered pavilion. DanceCo is a professional performance company creating original, interactive dance narratives for young people of all ages (yes, that includes you, too, grown-ups!). The show begins with an age-appropriate workshop where audience members learn interactive elements they’ll use throughout the performance. Then, DanceCo’s talented artists take the stage for a captivating 45-minute show filled with opportunities for the audience to join the fun!

GALA Choruses Festival 2024

GALA Choruses’ signature event is our quadrennial Festival, which gathers LGBTQ+ choruses from all over North America and the world. Festival is five days of singing, connecting and creating. It’s wall-to-wall concerts, workshops, social events, joy and pride.
It’s the largest LGBTQ choral event in the world.
It’s you with thousands of your peers taking over a city and filling it with song.

GALA Choruses Festival will gather about 7,000 singers from 122 choruses this summer in Minneapolis. This is just a portion of the more than 15,000 singers and nearly 200 LGBTQ+ choruses in North America and beyond who make up GALA Choruses. Festival 2024 choirs will perform at world-class venues in downtown Minneapolis including Orchestra Hall, The Minneapolis Convention Center, and Central Lutheran Church. Festival 2016 in Denver, CO, gathered more than 6,000 singers in-person and more than 14,000 unique viewers online.

PCC will support the regional arts ecology with trained workers and space to build, and catalyze new investments in community infrastructure that stabilize the neighborhood and build economic wellbeing for residents.

Summer Foraging Day

Join Maria Wesserle and Four Season Foraging for a full day of foraging! Take a trip out to the countryside for an in-depth exploration of wild plants and mushrooms. We will discuss laws and ethics around foraging, as well as identification, harvest and preparation of edible species. Plants and mushrooms that we may find include wild grapes, wild plums, chanterelles, and chicken of the woods! “The Garden”

Children’s Theatre Company (CTC) is pleased to announce that the 2024 Triple Threat production will be the World Premiere Musical “The Garden”. Featuring book, music, and lyrics by Hannah Bakke, “The Garden” will be directed by Emma Y. Lai, with choreography by Jack Morman, and music direction by Justin Church. “The Garden” is the world’s first music venue, the genesis of honkytonks — an electric, cozy place where creation begins, and woman finds her voice. It’s a story old as time, told through the lens of Eve’s self-discovery and resolve. This bluegrass, backwoods revival takes you on a journey of what it means to be imperfectly perfect.
Students enrolled in the Triple Threat Summer Intensive spend the first half of their day in theatre arts training (classes in acting, movement, voice, and more) and the second half in rehearsal for the production. Past productions include “Carrie,” “Rent,” “Be More Chill,” and “Head Over Heels.” The students work with professional directors, professional designers, and other experienced theatre artists and practitioners. The focus is on process; students have the opportunity to hone their craft, dig deeper, and build their community.

Art and Artifact: Murals from the Minneapolis Uprising

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police on the street outside the Cup Foods convenience store at the intersection of 38th Street E. and Chicago Ave. Days of protests and unrest followed. During the uprising, business owners across the Twin Cities began to cover their storefronts with sheets of plywood which were soon turned into powerful messages and murals by artists, protestors, and community. The Cities were in turmoil and the urban landscape was transformed into a living visual chronicle of the moment.
During this time, Leesa Kelly founded Memorialize the Movement and began collecting and preserving these murals as businesses took them down. Memorialize the Movement has collected over 1,000 panels of plywood over the last four years and continues to do so today, along with exhibiting these murals for the purpose of keeping George Floyd’s memory and the story of the uprising alive and fresh in people’s minds.
The Katherine E. Nash Gallery, in association with Memorialize the Movement, presents “Art and Artifact: Murals from the Minneapolis Uprising,” curated by Amira McLendon, a former Intern of Memorialize the Movement and the Katherine E. Nash Gallery. The exhibition features a selection of the murals from Memorialize the Movement’s collection. “Art and Artifact” is the largest gallery exhibition of the murals to be presented since they were created and is Amira McLendon’s curatorial debut. Her goal for the exhibition is to encourage people to reflect on where we are now, as we approach the fifth year since George Floyd’s murder.

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre has opened the Twin Cities’ first Puppet and Mask Lending Library! This hands-on opportunity will help kids and families embrace and participate in using puppets through a free two-week checkout system, just as they would do with a book at the library. The puppets can be used for community events, school plays, personal celebrations and more. All who check out a puppet or mask will get a lesson on how to wear and operate what they’re borrowing. Some puppets in the library will require puppeteers and/or transportation for a fee.
The library will be open the first and third Saturday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Minnesota Bicycling Handbook now available in Spanish, Somali, and English
BikeMN’s Minnesota Bicycling Handbooks have been translated into Spanish and Somali thanks to generous support from the Metropolitan Council. The Minnesota Bicycling Handbook continues to be one of BikeMN’s most in-demand education resources EVER! We know the handbook contains information that bicyclists and motorists need and want – which is why we’re overjoyed to offer it for Adult Learn to Ride participants in Spanish and Somali.
The Minnesota Bicycling Handbook provides 36 pages of Minnesota-specific information and digs into the details of many complicated topics, such as lane positioning, roadway and bike lane markings, bike law, equipment, bicyclists’ rights and more. This is the only place this information has been captured and put into one resource. The Somali, Spanish, and English handbooks are available to view and download digital copies at bikemn.org/handbook.
Take care of your community – Adopt-a-Stop!
Adopt-A-Stop is a program that helps businesses, individuals, community organizations and schools make a real difference in their neighborhoods by “adopting” local transit stops. Metro Transit employees make regular visits to shelters (in some cases, daily) to make sure that they are clean and damage-free. An adopter assists us by joining us in this work and alerting us to special maintenance needs and reporting vandalism or suspicious activity. When you or your group adopts a stop, you’ll help us keep area bus stops, shelters, and stations safe and clean. And the community will see you or your organization as a “good neighbor” that cares about its environment when we hang a sign with your name at the stop.
