Hennepin County Board Chair, Irene Fernando, on July 31, released a statement that she “will advocate for Hennepin County to begin reducing total trash burned at the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) by February 2026 by 80,300 tons to a total of 284,700 tons per year; by November 2026 reducing another 94,900 tons to 189,800 tons; by June 2027 reducing another 94,900 tons to 94,900 tons; by December 2027 to no trash being burned at HERC.”
