Southside neighbor Bill Hatton, a Vietnam veteran nearly completely paralyzed by Agent Orange, is anticipating death. He had two final wishes: to feel grass under his feet one more time and to protest war with his Vets for Peace colleagues. He wanted to join the daily Vets for Peace fast and vigil protest in solidarity with the starving children in Gaza in downtown Minneapolis, but his medical condition made that inadvisable. When the Vets learned this, they decided to come to him, moving their vigil near the Minnesota Veterans Home where Bill is in hospice.
Thirty vets and friends joined in a moving demonstration of love and resistance. After the ceremony, his comrades supported him as he got his feet on the grass!
The US military sprayed the defoliant Agent Orange profusely in Vietnam causing decades and generations of suffering.
